2 out of 5 stars poor material and construction trumps good design   December 6, 2008

I purchased this to assist me around the house while I recover from a surgery. The design of this is good, but there is too much plastic used in construction - especially problematic at the "neck" which is a vulnerable point in the design. If you were only very gently lifting things it may suffice, but if any pressure is used to shift, slide or nudge an object you may find the plastic neck snapping. This happened to me the first day of use. Very disappointing. I rated at two stars instead of one because I think the design was good, but I definitely cannot recommend it.

There is also the price. I purchased two Duro-Med Aluminum Reachers for almost the same amount and found them superior to the Invacare.

5 out of 5 stars A VERY USEFUL DEVICE   June 20, 2008
This is my second (what I call a great picker-upper). I broke my first one after three years when I accidentally used it as a cane, otherwise, it would have lasted for many more years. This is my first and only comment on a product. Why I am writing this is to let people who have bad knees, bending problems etc., have some relief by using this product.

2 out of 5 stars Poorly Made - broke during first month   February 17, 2008
I liked this reacher, but it broke apart the first month of use. I really wish it had better durability because I like the larger grabbing paddles. I have one I got from the hospital that has a magnetic tip, so I won't be replacing this one.

2 out of 5 stars Not worth the money   December 29, 2007
The rubber tips came off within a few weeks and the entire gripper end broke off after about 3 months.

5 out of 5 stars I love it...........   December 27, 2007
I'm short and am afraid of falling on a high stool. Now I was able to reach that coveted jar of honey from the farmers market on that top shelf.

Soooooooo, I pick it up with the reacher, yipeeeeeee. Unfortunately I also set it down, the honey jar went on it's side, and the cap not being fastened as well as it should have been, leaked out of the jar, onto the shelf, dribbling it's way to the stove.

The reacher worked but so did Murphy's Law. In all seriousness, it's a tool I use at least twice a week.
